Plain answers about zip files, publishing, your data and domains.
Getting Started
What is a zip file?
A zip file packs a folder and everything inside it into one single file. Your project is made of dozens of files; zipping it lets you upload all of them at once. Nothing is changed; it is only packed.
How do I make a zip file?
On Windows, right-click the project folder; on Windows 11 choose "Compress to › ZIP file", on Windows 10 choose "Send to › Compressed (zipped) folder". On a Mac, right-click the folder and choose "Compress". You can also tell your AI assistant "Make a zip file of this project so I can upload it".
Which folder should I zip?
The whole project folder you worked in with your AI assistant. It usually contains files such as package.json or index.html. If you're not sure, ask your assistant "which is the main folder of this project?".
Do I need to know how to code?
No. If there is a problem, we explain it in plain language. Paste that text into your AI assistant; it makes the fix and you upload the new zip.
I don't know what my project was built with. Is that a problem?
No. When you upload the zip, we work out what your project is and show you.
Which technologies can I publish?
Plain HTML sites, built sites such as React and Vite, and Node.js, Next.js, Python and .NET apps publish directly. Other languages such as Go need a Dockerfile in the project. docker-compose is not supported.
Uploading
My zip is bigger than 50 MB. What should I do?
Delete the node_modules folder inside your project folder and zip it again. That folder only contains downloaded libraries, and we reinstall it when you publish, so nothing is missing from your project.
Do I need to delete anything before zipping?
No. When you upload, we remove the folders a server doesn't need (such as node_modules and .git). Removing them yourself just makes the upload faster.
What happens to my .env file?
.env is the file that holds passwords and keys. It is removed from the upload and never stored. You enter the values in your dashboard, where they are kept encrypted and never shown again. Only public values with the VITE_, NEXT_PUBLIC_, PUBLIC_, REACT_APP_ prefixes are passed to the build.
Is my project run when I upload it?
No. Uploads are only read and checked. Apps that save information only run after you press Publish, in their own closed space, separate from other projects.
Publishing
What happens if there is a problem when I upload?
If a problem blocks publishing, the project stays offline until it is fixed and the problem is explained in plain language. Paste that text into your AI assistant, zip again and upload the new version. Warnings don't stop publishing.
Will updating delete my data?
No. The database is set up on the first publish and kept on every update after that. Uploading a new version only changes the app itself; it doesn't touch your saved information.
What if publishing fails?
The live version keeps running. The logs section on the app's card shows where it stopped.
Where should files uploaded by users be saved?
In the permanent folder: /data, given to your app in the DATA_DIR environment variable. Files saved anywhere else are lost when you update.
Can I go back to an older version?
Yes: upload that version's zip again. When a new version goes live, the old one is deleted, so keep your zips.
How do I update my project?
Upload the new zip from the same app's card on the My Apps page. Your address stays the same and the data in your database is kept.
Which databases are supported?
We set up PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis and SQLite and pass the connection details to your app automatically. We don't provide SQL Server, but you can enter your own server's address as an environment variable.
Does my site open over HTTPS?
Yes. Every address opens over an encrypted connection, and you don't need to do anything about certificates.
Domains and Plans
What address will my site have?
A name you choose, at your-project.aitoapp.com.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, on the Standard and Enterprise plans. You only need to add two records in the dashboard of the company you bought the domain from.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan publishes sites and small apps at an aitoapp.com address, with a small "Report" badge on the page. It is not a trial and has no time limit.
How much do paid plans cost?
Standard is $12 a month and Enterprise $39 a month, VAT included, with 2 months free on annual billing. Each plan's limits are on the Plans page.
What happens if someone reports my site?
Reports are reviewed. A site reported for scams or malware by two or more different people within 72 hours is suspended automatically. If you think it's a mistake, write to us.
What happens if I go over my plan limits?
If you have reached your app limit, you can’t create a new app. If your total space is full, you also can’t upload. If you go 20% over the limit, your largest app goes to sleep; your data is not deleted. If this month’s traffic goes 20% over the limit, your apps sleep until the start of next month or until you upgrade. You are never charged extra. You can see your usage on the My Apps page.
How do I delete my app or account?
Press Delete on the app's card on the My Apps page; its files, settings and databases are deleted within minutes. To close your account, write to us.
Do you back up my data?
We don't guarantee backups. Keep your own copy of the source code and export important data from your app regularly.
Who owns my code and content?
They are yours. You keep all rights to the code and content you upload; we only store, review, build and serve them to provide the service.
